Growing up on the Garden Isle, Lucas began scrambling up trees from a very young age. Climbing was always second nature, and he spent a lot of time in the tree tops.

His lifelong love for plants and trees led him to study Tropical Plant Science & Agroecology at the University of Hawai’i at Hilo where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture.

After graduating, he began to trim Coconut Trees in the Hilo area and sell the coconuts to local cafes, fruit stands, and friends.  He enjoyed this endeavor, and quickly realized he preferred tree work to that of his part time job.  Through the help of a few Arborist friends, he began to learn and perfect various climbing techniques.  With the progression of his skill set, he diversified from coconuts to include the wide variety of trees living here on the Big Island. He started his own tree trimming service and aspired to become a Certified Arborist, earning the ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) credential in 2013.
